The talented Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw said he was not expecting a call so early in his career. Shaw was added to the 18-man squad for the final two Test matches against England.
Meanwhile, Shaw has impressed with his fine strokeplay. The talented batsman also led India to the Under-19 World Cup glory in New Zealand earlier in the year. He scored 261 runs in the tournament.
Furthermore, the 18-year old has impressed while playing in the domestic circuit for Mumbai. He also scored a fine century against South Africa A in Bangalore recently.
Moreover, Shaw also played in England for India A side on a recently completed tour. Thus, he knows the English conditions well.
“I was not expecting a Test call-up so early,” Shaw told Mid-Day.
“I have followed India’s first three Test matches against England and if given a chance in the playing XI, I will try my best to contribute,” the 18-year old added.
The young lad went on to give his gratitude to his father who has played a huge role in getting him here to the top level. Prithvi Shaw also gave his thanks to his coaches who guided him on the right path.
“I would like to give credit to my dad. He has done a lot for me. I don’t know how to express it in words. I would also like to thank my coaches who have helped me a lot.”
Shaw had scored a truckload of runs while playing in the domestic circuit. The young batsman was also brought by Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League. The opening right-hander scored 245 runs in the limited opportunities in which he scored two fifties.
Meanwhile, Shaw also scored hundreds on his debut in Ranji as well as Duleep trophy. Thus, Prithvi Shaw has shown the promise to be the future of Indian cricket team.
