In a great news for Indian men’s hockey team, Roelant Oltmans will get an extension as chief coach till the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Under his tutelage, the Indian team has performed well. They have won the silver in the Champions Trophy held this year in London. India reached the quarter-final of the Rio Olympics before losing to Belguim.
“Yes, we got a request from Hockey India asking about the renewal of Oltmans’ contract till 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Looking at the team’s progress and his performance, the Sports Authority of India doesn’t have any problems. So, we have forwarded the file to the Ministry. So you can say it’s in progress,” a top SAI source told PTI.
“He has done a great job with the team and he deserves it. Regarding his terms and conditions, there are minute changes which I won’t like to get into,” he added.
India defeated Pakistan in a recently concluded Asian Champions Trophy finals. It was an outstanding performance by team India who remained unbeaten in the entire tournament.
Indian team has some great players like Sardar Singh, Rupinder Pal Singh, SV Sunil who have performed well and done the country proud.
Oltmans extension will serve India well as he got sights for major tournaments in the upcoming months and also the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He will hope to give the team glory days back.
Indian team has shown improvement and with the major tournament like the World Cup coming up in 2018, the chief coach will help India to perform well on a global stage. The Indian team is ranked number 6th in the world.
