West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo has revealed the idea for the name of the song ‘Helicopter 7’ was given by Sakshi Dhoni. Brave released ‘Helicopter 7’ on the eve of MS Dhoni’s 39th birthday last month (July), as a tribute to the legend. The West Indies all-rounder, on Wednesday, became the first cricketer to take 500 T20 wickets. He has been equally successful with his singing career garnering over 500k subscribers and 33 million views on his YouTube channel.
Bravo will be part of the IPL with CSK under MS Dhoni’s captaincy once again in September. The 13th edition of IPL was originally scheduled to kick off from March 29, however, got postponed indefinitely after April 15 due to the surge in coronavirus cases in the country. Eventually, the postponing of the World Cup to 2021 allowed IPL a window to be conducted in September.
Naming the song helicopter was her idea: Dwayne Bravo on Sakshi Dhoni
Dwayne Bravo has revealed that it was Sakshi Dhoni’s idea to name the song Helicopter and he wanted to add Dhoni’s number 7 to it and hence it was named ‘Helicopter 7’. Bravo also mentioned him not knowing about MS Dhoni’s retirement prior and just wanted to pay him tribute when he was still playing the game.
“Yeah yeah (got great response), from him (Dhoni) and from his wife (Sakshi). His wife was instrumental in some of the things put into the song. For example naming the song helicopter was her idea. I wanted to call the song No. 7. I asked some of his fans too about the things they want and the thing that stood out was helicopter. I’m just happy I was able to put together a project like this. The song reached a million views within an hour,” Bravo told ABP News.
“I’m heavily into music and I said to my musical team that I have to do a song for this guy and I have to do it before he retires. I didn’t want it to be a farewell song or a sad song. I wanted it to be a song highlighting his achievements throughout his career while he’s still playing. A lot of people remember players when they finish. Honestly I had no idea that he’s going to retire. Good news is he’s still going to be playing in yellow,” Bravo stated.
He has done a lot for me: Dwayne Bravo on MS Dhoni
The CSK all-rounder Bravo is all praises for his captain — and for the good he has done to the sport and for him personally. Dwayne Bravo said he was shocked to hear the news of MSD’s retirement and even he got the news from social media.
“The song came about because he has done so much for cricket, done so much for his country and for me personally. He has done a lot for me, he has helped me to improve my game,” Bravo added.
“I first came to know about the news from social media just like other people. MS and I share a very good relationship but these are things that maybe his close surroundings, may be his wife, his family will know about. I was in shock as well,” Bravo said.
MS Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo will be seen in CSK colours in the upcoming IPL. The IPL 2020 will begin from September 19 till November 10, a total 53-day campaign will see all the 8 teams play in UAE. The venue this time is UAE and matches will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
