Jammu and Kashmir have appointed former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan as the coach-cum-mentor of its senior stateside for the forthcoming season.

Aashiq Bukhari, CEO of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, confirmed the news, saying:

“He will be the coach-cum-mentor of our team for a period of one year.”

Pathan shifted base to Jammu and Kashmir after being sensationally dropped by Baroda last season. He played 29 Tests, 120 ODIs, and 24 T20 Internationals for India between 2003 and 2012.

New Zealand recovered from a disastrous start to frustrate England before the visitors struck late on day two of the ongoing second Test in Christchurch. Jonny Bairstow converted his overnight 97 not out into his fifth Test century, helping England score 307.

In reply, New Zealand looked clueless in front of James Anderson and Stuart Broad as they were reduced to 36 for 5. BJ Watling (77 not out) and Colin de Grandhomme (72) then added 142 runs before Broad returned to remove De Grandhomme. Bad light stopped play with New Zealand closing on 192-6, trailing by 115 runs.

Zimbabwe sack entire coaching staff, Graeme Cremer loses captaincy:

Zimbabwe have sacked their entire coaching staff and removed Graeme Cremer as captain in the wake of the team’s failure to qualify for the 2019 World Cup.

According to media reports,  Zimbabwe Cricket had given them an ultimatum following the qualifiers and the coaching staff had refused to step down. Those who have been axed are head coach Heath Streak, batting coach Lance Klusener, bowling coach Douglas Hondo, fielding coach Walter Chawaguta, fitness coach Sean Bell and team analyst Stanley Chioza – all other coaching staff, including the Zimbabwe A coach Wayne James and Under-19 coach Stephen Mangongo have been booted out.

Sunrisers Hyderabad replaces David Warner with Alex Hales:

England opener Alex Hales has replaced David Warner in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League. The BCCI banned Warner in the wake of the ball tampering scandal. The hard-hitting batsman is also banned for a year by Cricket Australia for his role in the sensational scandal.

Hales was bought for his base price of INR 1 crore from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list. Meanwhile, in the absence of Warner, Kane Williamson will lead the side.

Sameer Verma is the lone Indian survivor at the Orleans Open World Super 100 tournament after he made it to the semifinals with a hard-earned victory over Lucas Corvee in men’s singles competition.

The top-seeded Indian came from behind to see off his eighth-seeded rival 17-21 21-19 21-15 in a battle that lasted an hour and eight minutes. Sameer will now face Netherlands’ Mark Caljouw.

John Isner stuns Juan Martin del Potro to reach Miami Open final:

John Isner continued his sensational run in Miami Open with a sensational win over Argentina’s Martin del Potro.

The towering American beat del Potro 6-1, 7-6 (2) in Friday’s semifinals and ended the Argentinian’s 15-match winning streak.
