In the month of July itself, Hima Das has won a total of 5 gold medals in different tournaments.
India’s Hima Das clinched yet another gold for the country, taking her tally to an incredible 5 gold medals in a month. The latest gold came from her win in the 400m race in Prague, Czech Republic, on Saturday. The Dhing Express, which she’s fondly called by her fans, clocked 52.09 seconds to complete the race which also was her season-best timing. Her personal best timing stands at 50.79 seconds which she registered in the Asian games 2018.
It was Hima’s first time competing in a 400m event after she pulled out of the 400m event in Asian Athletics Championship in April with a back spasm,
Hima’s gold medal streak began on July 2 in Poznan Athletics Grand Prix, in Poland. It was her first competitive 200m race of the year. She managed to win it with a timing of 23.65 seconds. After the fifth gold medal, Hima Das said in a tweet: “Finished 400m today on the top here in the Czech Republic today.”
Her second gold came again from the 200m event at the Kutno Athletics Meet, in Poland, on July 7. She registered a time of 23.97 seconds. On July 13, she won her third 200m gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet in Czech Republic with a time of 23.43 while her fourth gold came at the Tabor Athletics Meet also in Poland, on Wednesday, July 17.
Hima may add another gold to her tally, for the 4×400 mixed relay race team at the Asian Games which may be upgraded from silver to gold. Bahrain who won the gold medal, may lose out because of a failed dope test by their sprinter Kemi Adekayo, who participated in the event. Adeyako will potentially be handed a four year ban by Athletics Integrity Unit.
