PV Sindhu has become India’s favorite daughter over the years. She made the country proud by winning a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She brought laurels to the country again when she won a silver medal in the recently concluded World Championship. She lost a thrilling final against Nozomi Okuhara 19-21, 22-20, 20-22. Her efforts throughout the tournament were hailed all over the world. However, a journalist from Hindustan Times was all impressed by the young Indian shuttler.

An Article in the Hindustan Times newspaper stated Sindhu as a “Choker” and questioned her caliber in high-pressure matches. The headline of the article was “ Why choker PV Sindhu is still not pure gold standard”.

This didn’t go well with various sports and other personalities. Former English cricketer turned commentator Alan Wilkins was furious at the writer of the article, he Tweeted, “Your headline @htTweets on @Pvsindhu1 is an absolute disgrace! Gutter journalism at its worst. #rubbishreporting”.

He described the article “Poor” and criticized the journalist in personal. He Tweeted, “Hey @ronnie_sandip Have you ever been on a badminton court, let alone represent your country? Your @htTweets article on @Pvsindhu1 was poor”

He was later supported by former Indian tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi, who Re-Tweeted Alan Wilkins first Tweet and slammed the journalist. Bhupathi has brought great laurels to the country and has faced criticism in his career too, understands the efforts put in by the athletes on and off the field to make the nation proud. Bhupathi Tweeted, “Articles like this is one of the reasons Indian sport is not where it should be. Shame on @htTweets http://m.hindustantimes.com/other-sports/why-choker-pv-sindhu-is-still-not-pure-gold-standard/story-okKKjLHXFcxJrhmmKyluXO_amp.html …”. He was completely gutted and Re-tweeted other Tweets against the article or the journalist.

Former Indian fast bowler also expressed his frustration about the article. “Pathetic headlines @HTSportsNews. How low can u go.” Ht being a widely followed newspaper in the country faced a lot of criticism and the readers wanted some action to be taken against the journalist and the editor.
