HS Prannoy lost to Victor Axslen in grueling three setter 21-16,9-21 and 18-21 in the quarter finals of Yonex Indian Open Super series at the Siri Fort Complex at New Delhi just few moments ago. It was a brilliant display by Prannoy who beat Jorgesen yesterday but was not able to deliver the goods today. It was watched a good crowd.
In the first set Victor Axslen began off to great start taking a 2-0 lead before Prannoy equaled at 2-2. After that Victor Axslen took 5 successive points to make it 7-2 before Prannoy made a fanatsic comeback to make it 9-7. At the interval Prannoy took a slender lead of 11-10. After the interval HS Prannoy took a challenge for out but linesmen called it in to make 12-11. Another challenge was made by Axslen for in but it was out to make it 15-13 in favor of Prannoy. After that Prannoy never looked back and wrapped up the first game 21-16.
In the second game Victor Axslen started off a great start racing to 6-1 lead. Victor attacked right from the start and never allowed Prannoy to comeback in the game. At the interval Victor took a commanding 11-2 lead. After the interval Prannoy tried to make a comeback but it was too late for Prannoy. Victor won the second game 21-9.
In the third game Victor again started off to a great start taking a 9-4 lead. Victor played some excellent shots that was very hard for Prannoy. At the interval it was 11-6 in favor of Victor. After the interval Prannoy played some excellent badminton to reduce the gap. Victor Axslen was at 20-16 but saved two match points but it was not enough for Prannoy to escape the loss.
In the other quarter finals Guru Sai Dutt lost in three setter to xue song of China.
