Arsenal Star All Set To Snub Liverpool By Signing A New Bumper Deal
Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly ready to pen a new long-term deal to commit his future to the North London giants despite being heavily linked with Liverpool.
The England international, who has been at the Emirates since 2011 when he left his childhood club Southampton, has been linked with Liverpool since the last season. However, the Merseyside giants, it seems, will have to look out for other options as the reports are suggesting that the Gunners are confident of keeping the winger in London by handing him a new lucrative deal.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s current contract at the Emirates expires next summer and according to John Cross of The Mirror, Arsenal believe they can tie down the winger and are ready to offer him new terms worth in excess of £100,000 per week. The report claimed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has already made moves to offer the 23-year old a new contract within the next few weeks.
The winger has already proved his worth with his brilliant performance in Arsenal’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Chelsea last month and with him enjoying a brilliant last season, Arsenal will be desperate to keep him at the club. Moreover, with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s futures still uncertain at the Emirates, Wenger, who recently signed new two-year deal, will be keen to keep Oxlade-Chamberlain at the club.
The ex-Southampton player will also be keen to stay at the Emirates as he is entering the most important phase of his career. He only started 16 Premier League matches last season but his impressive performances in the latter part of the season is a big indication that he could become a guaranteed starter next term.
On the other hand, failure to sign the England star will be a big blow for Liverpool who are desperate to sign the winger. Reports last month suggested that Liverpool made an approach for the Gunners star as Jurgen Klopp is in the market to sign a winger. The former Borussia Dortmund manager, who was reportedly keen to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain, is exploring a number of options, including AS Roma star Mohamed Salah.
