Tottenham Hotspur started the New Year in sensational fashion by beating the invincible Blues 5-3 at White Hart Lane. Despite the unbelievable victory, the man who will make all the headlines is of course Harry Kane.
His progress this season has took many by surprise. Since Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov left the club all those years ago, Spurs have been searching for that elusive world-class striker who can play on his own up front. Finally, a homegrown youngster in the name of Kane has made the role his own with impressive performances.
For the last few years, White Hart Lane fans have been buzzing about the prospect of seeing Kane in the senior squad after watching his development in the youth ranks. For a while now, the youngster has been knocking on the door but was never been able to fully make the switch into the first team.
Kane managed only 10 Premier League appearance last season, of which four were substitute appearances. But he still managed to score three goals.
So many expected this to be the season when Kane will make a name for himself but, not even them would have expected the youngster to reach these heights. Due to his impressive recent displays, Kane has managed to keep big names like Adebayor and Soldado at bench.
With the brace against Chelsea on New Year day, Kane has already scored 17 goals in all competition for Spurs this season. At the start of the season though, the English striker was not a regular for Spurs and he had to wait for a while to make his first league start.
Despite his great run in the Europa League, the striker was well below the pecking order for Spurs in the league. He had to score nine goals before getting a starting birth in the premier league. Since making his first start for Spurs against Stoke City in November, the Englishman has always had a place in the starting line-up.
May it be a supporting striker or a lone one, Kane has given his best wherever his manager Mauricio Pochetinno has asked him to play. Even when he was deployed as a number 10 against Everton, Kane looked impressive as he played a huge role in the opening goal scored by Christian Eriksen in that match.

Since then he has been in a good goal scoring form for Spurs. Then came the acid test against Chelsea. As expected Chelsea were the favourites to win the match and they started the match in the same trend when Costa opened the scoring for the blues.
From then it looked all Chelsea up until Kane took the ball and passed Oscar to unleash a great strike from over 20 yards to level the score for Spurs. The momentum shifted towards Spurs and they scored two more to finish the half 3-1 in the lead.
Soon after coming on in the second half, Kane virtually sealed the game for Spurs when he cleverly turned past Chelseas defenders to score from inside the box to make it 4-1. It was not only about goals, as he won the penalty from which Townsend scored the teams third and he set up Chadli for Spurs fifth goal.
He embarrassed two of the most experienced defenders in the form of Gary Cahill and John Terry to such an extent that Cahill booted Kane in his back in frustration when things were going against them during the second half. It’s up to FA to take further action in that matter.
At the final whistle the entire crowd gave a standing ovation to this remarkable young man and Kane certainly deserves all the praise he received. At the age of 21, he has his best years ahead of him. Hence, if he can keep up this level, sooner than later he can become a regular for both club and country.
