I Wasn't Fit to Compete so Gave Sushil Kumar a Walkover, Says Parveen Rana 1

A controversy erupted during the national championship last week in Indore when Sushil Kumar won the gold medal after he got three walkovers from his opponents. The three wrestlers namely Praveen, Sachin Rathi and Parveen Rana gave him walkovers as a mark of respect towards the senior player.

However, reports had suggested that Parveen Rana, Sushil’s opponent in the final, was not fit to compete, the reason why he gave Sushil a walkover.

Now Parveen has himself confirmed that he was not fit enough to compete and he reached the finals of the tournament facing many difficulties. Parveen added that he would face Sushil in times to come,

“Next year there will be a Commonwealth Championship, Commonwealth Games and Asian games as well. I was not ready to take any risks before those crucial tournaments. This is the reason why I gave Sushil a walkover. But yes, next year there can be a case when we might be facing each other in South Africa during Commonwealth Championship and there, I would face him and will win,” he told NBT during a chat.

Sushil Kumar did not have to do anything to win the gold medal, as all the three players gave him walkovers. Later, Sushil said he was happy to receive such respect from his fellow players and added that he would have done the same if he were in their place.
