ICC World Cup 2019: Bangladesh Sack Coach Steve Rhodes After Dismal Campaign

After serving for one year, the Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes has been dismissed from his duties, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board is looking for a new coach following the end to Bangladesh’s Journey in ICC World Cup 2019.
Surprisingly, he was sacked from the role even before it has ended. He took the charge in 2018 and was signed a deal to be with the team until the ICC T20 World Cup 2020. Meanwhile, the poor show in World Cup 2019 might have made the board to part ways with him.
Bangladesh cricket authorities on Monday announced they would let go head coach Steve Rhodes after a disappointing campaign in the World Cup. The decision came a day after Bangladesh returned home after ending their campaign in the World Cup eighth in the league phase.

They managed to win only three games, which came against Windies, Afghanistan and South Africa. The win against South Africa gave them a perfect start but they failed to make things fall in place from then on.
“We have decided to part ways with the head coach by mutual consent. The decision will be effective immediately,” Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury told AFP.
Further, BCB confirmed coach Rhodes will not travel with the team to Sri Lanka, where Bangladesh will play three one-day internationals later this month.
Recently, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the tour’s schedule in a statement. Bangladesh will become the first team to tour Sri Lanka since the deadly Easter attacks, which claimed the lives of 258 people, on April 21 earlier this year.
