Opening batter David Warner and Matt Renshaw are on their way back to Australia, joining captain Pat Cummins and pacer Josh Hazlewood after the visitors lost the second Test to India in Delhi by 6 wickets and trail 2-0 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which India has retained.
Cummins will fly home due to a serious family illness before rejoining his teammates ahead of the third Test which begins on March 1. The Australian players will have a couple of days’ respite before resuming training in Indore.
Josh Hazlewood has been officially ruled out of the remaining two Tests against India due to his Achilles heel issues and will fly back to continue his rehab at home in Sydney. And now the news is filtering in that openers David Warner and Matt Renshaw will join the two pacers in their journey back home.
David Warner Reportedly Sent Back After Elbow Injury; Ashton Agar And Matt Renshaw Likely To Return Home
Opener David Warner, who has had a terrible outing in the first two Tests was subbed out due to concussion after being hit on the head in the first innings and replaced in the XI by Matt Renshaw. However, later scans revealed that Warner had also suffered a hairline fracture to his left elbow.
This has possibly ruled him out of the remainder of two Tests and put his availability in immediate future in jeopardy. And now News Corp reported that Warner looks set to also be sent home in order to recover from a fractured elbow he sustained during the first innings of the second Test.
Apart from this, Nine Papers reported that Ashton Agar and Matt Renshaw could also be heading home. Mitchell Swepson also left the squad ahead of the second Test for the birth of his first child and will return to the group in preparation for the third Test.
