India head coach Rahul Dravid backed opener KL Rahul to get out of the poor run of form with the bat after the Rohit Sharma-led side’s 6-wicket win over Australia in the second Test in Delhi and retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the third time.

KL Rahul has been in terrible form since 2021 when he scored his last Test ton till date against South Africa. Since then, he has struggled to get going in the red ball format. He has scored 20, 17, and 1 in the three innings of this Australia Test series.

He has an average of 34.08 after 45 Tests, as well as his consistency, which has seen critics questioning his position in the team. With Shubman Gill waiting in the wings India’s Test team vice-captain is under fire.

However, in a post-match chat with Sanjay Manjrekar and Mark Waugh in Delhi, India coach Rahul Dravid said that KL Rahul will be backed to come good and just needs to trust his process.

“I think he needs to trust his processes. This is just a phase, he has been one of our most successful overseas openers. He’s got hundreds in South Africa and England, we’ll continue to back him. I believe he has the quality and class to come out of this. It is great working with this unit, managing formats is the most difficult part. But there’s not a lot of technical coaching, just simple conversations and challenging them, and giving them a pat on the back when they do well,” Rahul Dravid was quoted by saying to broadcasters.

Venkatesh Prasad Advises KL Rahul To Skip IPL And Play County Cricket To Get Form Back

On the other hand, former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad, who had been one of the staunch critics of KL Rahul’s batting, advised him to play county cricket in England like Cheteshwar Pujara, score runs and then earn his place back in the Indian XI. He also said that Rahul should think of skipping the IPL 2023.

He tweeted: “Rahul needs to play County cricket in England , score runs and earn his place back, much like Pujara did when he was dropped. Playiing Test Cricket for the country and doing everything possible to get back in form will be the best answer. But will it be possible to skip the IPL?

It remains to be seen whether KL Rahul keeps his place in the Indian squad for the next two Tests which will be played in Indore and Ahmedabad as the BCCI will announce the squad shortly.
