India won the first test by an inning and 132 runs in the Nagpur Test of the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin was all praise for his India teammate after the duo spun India to a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. Coming back from injury Jadeja had an excellent outing with both bat and ball.
After leading the bowling lineup in the second innings, Ashwin lauded Jadeja for his performance, speaking to star sports he said:
“I’m so thankful for the fact that I’ve got a partner like him to be bowling alongside me,”
He continued that Jadeja has been in phenomenal form and praised Jadeja’s performance in all departments of the game

“(Bowling with Jadeja) Massive help is an understatement. He’s been in phenomenal form. The way he’s batted, the way he’s bowled and we don’t have to talk about how well he moves in the field.”
When asked about his thoughts on the pitch, Ashwin said it was quite slow and the bowlers needed to invite batters into going for drives, but the pitch stayed a little low in terms of carry and bounce
“I thought this wicket was quite slow. You need to get the batsman driving on this. Getting them to drive was a good way for me to lure them into shots and induce the other half of the bat as well. The carry and bounce seemed a little low,” he said.
