When he plays a defensive shot, the way he bends forward, even against Mitchell Starc… he presents a straight face of the bat and plays a forward defense, it was so pleasing to see. It shows that he has confidence. He doesn’t only play on the back foot. His foot moves forward and he has a solid defense, not just a solid attack. And in Test cricket, you need that,” Gavaskar said.
He also hailed Gill for his batting against Mitchell Starc, who has been Australia go top pacer in the match, and added that he picks up the line and length very well, which keeps playing proper shots and also reckoned if maintains his consistency he can easily around 10,000 runs in his Test career.
“Shuffling back and forth against pace bowlers isn’t very easy. But he picks the lines and lengths well. If a batter has time, if he keeps his career in the right direction, he can easily score 8-10,000 runs in Tests.”

The Pitch Is Same For Both The Teams – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar slammed former Australian players and media for constantly criticizing India over pitch preparation of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The pitch has been the hot topic of discussion in the ongoing series.
“The pitch was the same for both. Play and accept that when you come overseas, you are not going to get pitches like at home, but do not use words like skullduggery, doubting the integrity of the Indians,” Gavaskar said.
Australia made a stunning comeback in the series with a win over India in Indore. Men in Blue are leading the series by 2-1 and will look to win in Ahmedabad and book their tickets for World Test Championship final in England.
