Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly praised Shubman Gill for his phenomenal hundred against Australia in the fourth and final test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Gill registered his maiden International test century on Indian soil–and has been enjoying some fine form in 2023.
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly speaking to India Today said that the Ahmedabad pitch was a very good wicket to bat–and Gill utilized the conditions to his advantage to score a stupendous hundred.
Ganguly added the last three matches were not suitable for batting. He further reckoned Shubman Gill can emerge as an all-format player for India.
“It’s a good wicket to bat. They got some tough wickets in the last three matches. This is a proper wicket, so they batted well. Shubman Gill is very impressive. He is in tremendous form, Both are different. We need to keep Test cricket in a proper way that’s it, it is important,” Ganguly told India Today.
Shubman Gill has been in the purple patch of his career and he has done a fine job as an opener so far. He has been in hot form for India in all three formats. In test cricket, he scored 736 runs in 13 matches at 32. In ODIs, his last five scores have been 21, 116, 208, 40*, and 112. Many former cricketers predicted that Gill would be a superstar in the world of cricket.
Sourav Ganguly also lauded Ravichandran Ashwin for a fantastic fifer in the 1st innings of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which had very less offer for the bowlers. Ashwin was the pick of the bowler for India who picked up 6 wickets in the 1st innings.
