Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra came to the defense of KL Rahul after the Indian opener came under fire from many experts. Rahul was heavily criticized by Former Indian Bowler Venkatesh Prasad over his poor form and his inclusion in playing 11 ahead in form Shubman Gill. KL Rahul has the worst batting average since January 2022 for players with a minimum of five matches.

Aakash Chopra posted the stats of KL Rahul in SENA countries, where he best average next to Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma and Washington Sundar (just 1 Test) Since 2020, and said that this might be the reason for team India backed KL Rahul.

“Indian batters in SENA countries. Maybe, this is the reason selectors/coach/captain is backing KLR. He’s played 2 Tests at home (ongoing BGT) during this period,” Chopra Tweeted

Chopra took a dig at Venkatesh Prasad stating that he doesn’t need any role in BCCI as a selector or coach in any team and that his views are based on the stats.

“No, I don’t need a BCCI role as a selector/coach. I don’t need any mentor, or coaching role at any IPL team either,”  He added

With Shubman Gill waiting in the wings, it will difficult for KL Rahul to retain his spot in playing 11.  Shubman Gill is enjoying good form since the start of 2023. Despite scoring four centuries already, Gill had to warm the bench in the first two matches of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
