Indian Coach Rahul Dravid is happy with his team’s performance in this Border Gavaskar Trophy. India outplayed Australia 2-1 in the series to qualify for the world test championship final. The series proved to be crucial for India with the WTC finals spot up for grabs.
Rahul Dravid speaking to the media after the final day of the final test spoke about the mindset of the Indian team going into the series. The former Indian skipper said the team always wanted to produce results in all the matches they play and they wanted WTC qualification under their hand rather than depending upon the result of the New Zealand and Sri Lanka Series.
“We try to produce results in all the Tests we play. We wanted to keep the WTC qualification in our hands and we were aware that we had to win three matches in the series to make the series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand inconsequential,” Rahul Dravid said.
India started to play with very positive intent in the red ball under the leadership of Virat Kohli which is carried forward by Rohit Sharma. Indian side always looked for an outright win rather than playing for a draw. India has emerged as one strongest test-playing sides in the world and has been a force to reckon with for other teams.
New Zealand Mostly Knock Us Out Of ICC Tournaments – Rahul Dravid On Black Caps Helping India Qualify For WTC Final
Earlier on Monday, Kane Williamson guided New Zealand to a thrilling last-ball win over Sri Lanka in the first Test on a rain-disrupted final day in Christchurch, which eventually helped India qualify for the World Test Championship finals. Dravid revealed that the team was closely following the contest, hoping that New Zealand wins the match, and added that the team was watching the match during the lunch of Day 5.
“We were eagerly watching, hoping Sri Lanka doesn’t win. The World Test Championship is a two-year-long event, all the teams play six Test series each, so it’s natural you’ll be dependent on others. Although you have to put in your best in competitions such as this you are also dependent on others. The good thing is that New Zealand, who mostly knock us out of ICC tournaments, gave us little support. We are thankful to them,” Dravid added.
Rahul Dravid’s side India outplayed Australia in home conditions but will face stiff competition from them in World Test Championship Final in June. As India qualified for the WTC final for the second time in a row, Australia will make its debut appearance in the final. The WTC final will be played at the Oval from June 7.
