Shubman Gill, on Wednesday (February 1), played the best knock of his short T20I career so far as he smashed a stunning century against New Zealand in the third T20I in Ahmedabad. Thanks to his century, India thrashed the Black Caps a record margin of 168 runs to clinch the three-match series.
Batting first, India rode on Shubman Gill’s century to post a mammoth total of 234 for 4 in the allotted 20 overs. Opening the innings, the right-handed batsman remained unbeaten on 126 off 63 balls. His stunning knock was studded with 12 fours and 7 sixes.
Apart from him, Rahul Tripathi (44 off 22), Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 13) and captain Hardik Pandya (30 off 17) also played fine cameos to put India in the driver’s seat.

In reply, New Zealand came up with a horror show with the bat as they failed to cross the 100-run mark for the second game in a row. After being restricted to 99 for 8 in the second T20I, the visitors were all out for paltry 66 in the series-decider.
Only Daryl Mitchell (35) and skipper Mitchell Santner (13) managed to cross the double-digit mark with the bat. Hardik Pandya was the star with the ball, taking 4 for just 16 runs while Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi picked up 2 wickets apiece.
Shubman Gill creates history:
Thanks to his stunning century and the bowlers’ commanding performance, Shubman Gill has created history. He has become the first-ever batsman to outscore New Zealand in a T20I match. While he is the second Indian batsman to achieve the feat after Virat Kohli, he is the first-ever in the world to do so against the Black Caps.
