On Wednesday India beat West Indies by 6 wickets to take a lead of 1-0 in the first match at Eden Gardens, let’s take a look at all relevant numbers of the match.
Dazzling debut for Ravi Bishnoi:
Ravi Bishnoi became the first Indian player from the batch of U-19 World Cup 2020 to make it to the senior team. He bowled the second most economical spell by any Indian spinner on debut. Krunal Pandya (4-0-15-1) is the only one who is ahead of him and coincidentally he also made his debut against West Indies on the same ground.
He also became the 9th Indian player to get a ‘Player of the Match’ award in his debut T20I match. Dinesh Karthik (2006), Pragyan Ojha (2009), S Badrinath (2011), Axar Patel (2015), Barinder Sran (2016), Navdeep Saini (2019), Ishan Kishan (2021), and Harshal Patel (2021) are others in this elite list.

Struggle for Ishan Kishan:
Last week Mumbai Indians broke the bank for him at the auction as he became the second-costliest Indian player in the history of IPL auction but things didn’t go well for him on Wednesday as he struggled to get going despite he stayed at the crease for 12 overs. His strike rate of 83.33 was the lowest by any Indian batsman who faced at least 40 balls in the innings. Previously Dinesh Mongia scored 38(45) in India’s first-ever T20I game way back in 2006.
West Indies struggle on the road:
Like in ODIs, West Indies is also struggling on the road in the shortest format as well. Since November 2020, they played 12 T20Is outside the home and could win only one game which was against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup last year.
And also they haven’t had a great time against India of late. In the last matches against India, West Indies could win only one which was at Thiruvananthapuram in 2019.
Captain Rohit Sharma on a roll:
Since Rohit Sharma took over as a full-time captain in white-ball cricket, India hasn’t lost a game under his captaincy. India won all seven internationals under his captaincy so far. First, they whitewashed New Zealand by 3-0 in the T20I series, then clean-swept West Indies in the ODI series.
However, he missed the South Africa tour where India was whitewashed by the hosts by 0-3.
