Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar is quite impressed with the performance of Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, and Prasidh Krishna in the 3rd ODI against South Africa. However, it couldn’t stop the hosts to clean sweep the series by 3-0.

As the series was already claimed by South Africa, India made 4 changes in their XI for the dead-rubber as they gave a chance to Suryakumar Yadav, Jayant Yadav, Deepak Chahar, and Prasidh Krishna. While Jayant bowled well in patches but didn’t have anything to show in his wickets tally, the other three made their presence felt in the match.

Deepak Chahar (2/53) not only bowled a terrific spell with the new ball but also played a blinder of knock 54(34) to take India to very close to winning. Prasidh Krishna (3/59) also bowled well in the death overs as India bowled South Africa out for the first time in the series.

In the chase, Suryakumar Yadav also played a sparkling knock of 39 runs in 32 balls. Gavaskar believes that these three deserve more chances to play, rather than warming up the bench.

“Definitely. They (Suryakumar, Chahar and Prasidh) have only enhanced their claims by the way they played,” Gavaskar said.

“Yes, it was a dead rubber but for them, it was not. Because for them it was an opportunity to show what they are capable of. And they knew South Africa would be very keen to have a complete sweep of the series. So that the pressure would be on them. And they came through very well. There is no question about it, which is the reason you need to invest in them more,” he added further.

Gavaskar insisted that India should these three’s performance as the only positive from the series and they should be consistently part of the team.

“Give them the feeling that now they should get more opportunities. That now they belong in the team than being made to sit in the dugout. So definitely these three names ones that you need to look at for the future,” he concluded.

India will play their next ODI series against West Indies starting on February 6.
