India smashed Singapore 10-0 in the fourth quarter-finals of Women’s Hockey League Round 2 at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium at New Delhi on Thursday night.

It was a dominating performance by the Indian women who played some excellent hockey and kept the ball in the opponents half, allowing Singapore hardly 3-4 times entering into their half and only twice in their circle.

In the first quarter, India began off to a positive start when India attacked in the first 43 seconds of the game but failed to score a goal. In the 4th minute, India earned the first penalty corner of the match that Poonam Rani converted into the goal in the second attempt to give India 1-0 lead.

In the 5th minute, India missed another chance of scoring a goal but a minute late India scored the 2nd goal through Rani Rampal. In the 7th minute India earned a penalty corner but was well saved by the goalkeeper. India earned another two penalty corners in 14.15 and in 14.25 but could not succeed ending the first quarter at 2-0.

In the 2nd quarter, India continued their dominance. India scored the 3rd goal through Vandana Katra who hit a reverse flick shot. In the 4th minute, India scored the 4th goal when Anupa Bala scored a field goal. In 6th minute India missed a chance of scoring a goal.

In the 8th minute, Singapore earned their first penalty corner but did not succeed.  In 9th minute, India tried to score a goal but was well saved by Singapore goalkeeper. At the end of 2nd quarter, it was 4-0 in favor of India.

In the third quarter, the same trend continued as India earned 2 successive penalty corners but not converted into goals. In the 3rd minute, India earned third penalty corner of the quarter and converted it in to a goal to make it 5-0.

Soon after that, India scored another goal when Rani Rampal scored the 6th goal in 5th minute. In 6th minute, India earned a penalty corner but did not convert the chance. In 8.59 minute India missed a chance of scoring another goal. At the end of third quarter it was 6-0 for India.

The fourth quarter too followed a similar pattern. India scored the 7th goal when Vandna Katra scored a field goal in 3rd minutes. In the 6th minute, India earned their 7th penalty corner and Jaspreet Kaur scored the goal to make it 8-0.

In the 7th minute, India earned 8th penalty corner but was hit well wide. In 9.50 minutes India hit a shot but was well wide off goal again. In 10.35 minutes India scored the 9th goal when Vandna Katra scored a field goal. The last goal too came from Vandana Katra.

Despite good victory the concern of converting penalty corners continues as they converted only 3 out of 8 Penalty corners on which they need to work.

With this result India will face Thailand in the semi finals while Malaysia will play Poland in other semi finals. India should not find it difficult to enter finals as they won 6-0 just two days ago.
