India vs Windies 2019: MSK Prasad Concedes Shubman Gill is in ‘Future Plans’
Guesswork across social media platform has been put to rest. The selection committee headed by MSK Prasad had revealed three different teams for the ODIs, T20Is and Tests respectively for India’s tour to Windies on Sunday (July 21). The talented batsman Shubman Gill had to wait a bit longer—to make it to the One-day International (ODI) team despite slamming two fifties against Windies on India ‘A’ tour to the Caribbean shores.
The 19-year-old Punjab-based star Gill had proved his mettle in the domestic set-up. Following the stellar run in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup campaign in New Zealand, the teenage sensation had done exceedingly well to impress selectors from time to time.
Gill knows how to live upto the billings:
Under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw, Gill bagged the Player of the Tournament award for his 372 runs at the jaw-dropping average of 124.
Even though he had batted mostly lower down the order, Gill thoroughly impressed with his bat by scoring 203 runs.
Recently, the fans had slammed selectors for not naming Gill in India’s limited-overs squad.
Also, while doing justice on his selection in India A, Gill further amassed 729 runs at the whopping average of 104 in just five matches. Overall, he has been phenomenal with the bat.
With a stroke of luck, Gill had made a debut for India during New Zealand tour. It came when Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul embroiled into controversy during a Koffee with Karan show. Thus, both had faced a brief suspension period. Subsequently, Gill got the chance to play on Kiwis shores, but things didn’t go his way.
Shubman Gill had to wait for more:
The highly-talented batsman didn’t have a good outing on both occasions. He had managed 16 runs in two ODIs against the Black Caps between January and February 2019.
With many contenders making things pretty tough for the selection committee, chief selector Prasad had categorically maintained that Gill will be considered for the future.
The former wicketkeeper-batsman Prasad had also cited that Gill made his debut because of Rahul’s absence.
“KL Rahul was suspended during New Zealand series so that’s why Shubman gill was given chance in that series. Since KL Rahul is back in the Indian squad, Shubman Gill has to wait. He will be considered in the future,” Prasad told the media in Mumbai.
The bilateral series will get underway with the first T20I in Florida on August 3.
