K Srikanth defeated Anthony Ginting in the semi-final of the Indonesian Grand Prix Gold event just a few moments ago. It was a dominating performance by Srikanth who outplayed his opponent despite being behind in the second set.
In the first game, the first point of the match was an excellent rally as the point went in favor of Srikanth. Srikanth took 4 successive points to take a 5-1 lead. At 3-7 Ginting took 4 points in a row to reduce the gap to 6-7. At the interval, Srikanth was leading at the score of 11-8. After the interval, Srikanth played some excellent smashes and did not allow Ginting to come back into the match. From 15-13 Srikanth took 7 successive points to win the first set 21-13 easily.
In the second game, Ginting started well taking the first 2 points before Srikanth came back to level the score at 2-2. Ginting played some excellent badminton and with the help of Srikanth committing errors the Indonesian player took a 7-2 lead. Srikanth came back strongly and from 5-8 down the Indian player came back well to first level the score at 8-8 and then taking an 11-8 lead at the interval. After the interval, Srikanth continued his dominance over his opponent and took a commanding 16-8 lead. Ginting made a great effort to come back into the match and reduced the gap to 14-17. Ginting tried to come back into the match, but Srikanth played an excellent smash to finish the set 21-19 and progressing into the finals of the tournament.
The final of the tournament will be played tomorrow. He has been in poor form in the last few months, but this will do a lot of good for the upcoming BWF Superseries finals.
