Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was elated by Indian veteran Ajinkya Rahane’s inclusion in the India Squad for World Test Championship final against Australia and wants him to make the most out of the opportunity given in the WTC final.

The Mumbai-born batter was dropped from the test squad after the conclusion of the South Africa series in 2022, following his string of poor performances in red-ball cricket alongside Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, and Ishant Sharma, of which only Pujara made a comeback into the side in the longer format of the game.

Ajinkya Rahane made a comeback into the side and has been in scintillating form for the four-time champions as he scored 224 runs in his six innings at a colossal strike rate of 189.83 in IPL 2023. Speaking on Ajinkya Rahane’s return to the side, Sourav Ganguly wanted him to do well in the opportunities given to him and wished him to do well in the final.

“I have always liked him. He has always been a good player for India, Opportunities don’t come every day and if he gets the chance to feature in the playing XI during the WTC final, he will make the most of it. So, I wish him all the best,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Injury to Shreyas Iyer has given the chance for Rahane to make the comeback in the side and the CSK batter had a phenomenal season with the bat for Mumbai in the 2022/23 Ranji Trophy season and piled up 634 runs in 7 matches at an average of 57.63 including a double century to his name.
