Mumbai Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is set to receive a special honour from his franchise for completing 10 years as skipper for the side during their next clash against Rajasthan Royals at their home ground on Sunday. Rohit Sharma has been the most successful captain in the history of the cash-rich league-leading his side to five championship titles in the league.

The Indian skipper will be appreciated for his contribution to the franchise in the famous Wankhede Stadium on the 10th anniversary as captain for the side. Rohit was handed over the responsibility in the 2013-mid season with legendary Ricky Ponting stepping down from that position.

Speaking on taking responsibility as  Mumbai Indians skipper, Rohit Sharma said that it was tough to straightaway take the job left by Ricky Ponting, but revealed that he was expecting to lead the side as he was given the responsibility as vice-captain in the previous two years.

“It was tough when we changed our captain. It was not easy to come in suddenly to do the job. But I have really enjoyed this role since the moment Ricky stepped down and I was handed the captaincy. I knew the responsibility would fall on my shoulders since I was vice-captain for two years,” Rohit Sharma said.

In the 2013 IPL, after a dismal string of performances from Ricky Ponting, stepped away from captaincy and Rohit Sharma was made the captain he impressed everyone with captaincy skills and his batting he scored about 500 runs in the sixth edition of the IPL, and eventually lead MI to victory.

Besides transforming MI into a major threat in the league, Rohit has himself evolved over the years. He has earned the distinction of being one of the most prolific captains in the world after leading the team to back-to-back titles in IPL 2019 and 2020.

Rohit Sharma said that it was a great feeling to win the 1st IPL title for his home side against Chennai Super Kings in 2013 and the team showed a lot of character in the final to begin the title hunt in the cash rich-league.

“It is simply amazing to win the IPL title with Mumbai, my hometown. The way we performed shows the character of the team. It was not an easy victory and I am really happy. I have no words to describe this feeling,” he stated.

Mumbai Indians have produced many superstars over the years with the likes of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ishan Kishan being part of the side in their winning victorious title campaign in the cash-rich league.
