Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie stated that he is not interested in coaching Australia as Cricket Australia has begun the search for a new candidate for Australia’s head coach. Notable that Justin Langer resigned from his position as Australia’s head coach last week.

Gillespie was presented as a strong contender for the job when Darren Lehmann resigned in 2018 after the famous Sandpaper Gate but this time the 46-year old is not putting his name up for the job.

“I’m fully committed to South Australian cricket”- Jason Gillespie

“I am not putting myself up for any jobs, I’m fully committed to South Australian cricket. I’ve got a lot of work to do here and I’m absolutely loving it,” Jason Gillespie spoke to Cricket.com.au.

Gillespie insisted that he’s fully committed to his roles for South Australia. Currently, he is the coach of South Australia and the BBL franchise ‘Adelaide Strikers’.

“It’s nice to be thought of in that way, but it’s not something I’m entertaining. I’ve got the greatest job in the world here at South Australia, and I’ve got two wonderful roles (also with Strikers), so I’m fully committed and fully focused on those,” said Gillespie.

We feel we’re building something here in South Australia, and I’m excited to play some small part in that,” he maintained.

Gillespie also had coaching stints with English county teams Yorkshire and Sussex.

However, Gillespie showed disappointment with the way how whole Justin Langer saga has been played. He stated that Langer has done an amazing job with the team in his 4-year stint.

“I think everyone’s been pretty disappointed at how it’s all played out, it’s pretty heartbreaking to see, to be honest. Justin’s handled himself very well. But I think everyone is of the opinion things probably could have been handled a bit better,” he said.

“We don’t know what’s gone on behind closed doors, whether (current) players have reached out to Justin. All I know is, in my opinion, I think he’s done a great job for Australian cricket over the last number of years,” he added.

Langer was appointed as Australia’s head coach in 2018. Under his coaching, Australia retained the Ashes in England for the first time in 18 years and also won their maiden T20 World Cup title last year in UAE.
