Indian women’s pair of Jwala Gutta and Ponappa clinched the Canada Open 2015 by defeating Dutch pair of Eefge Muskens and Selena Piek in straight sets 21-19, 21-16 in the early hours of Monday. It was an excellent performance by the Indian women’s pair who has been doing well in recent times.
In the first game both the pairs fought for each point as it was a very close match. At the changover the Indian pair led 11-10. After the changeover the fight for both pairs continued as they again equaled the score till 19-19 before Jwala Gutta and Ponappa scored an important point to make it 20-19 and sealed the first game 21-19.
In the second game Jwala Gutta-Ponappa started off on a great note taking 5 points. They lead the Dutch pair and scored five more points to make it 10-6 in favor of Indian pair. At the changeover the Indian pair led 11-6. After the changeover Jwala Gutta/Ponappa continued their dominance to take a commanding 15-6 lead. After that the Dutch pair turned it around and scored 9 points to equal the score at 15-15. Gutta/Ponappa played some excellent badminton after that and won 6 out of next 7 points, sealing the game 21-16.
It is a great performance by the Indian women’s pair who reached the semi finals of US Open Grand Prix Gold and now winning Canada Open 2015 will be a morale boosting win for the Indian women’s pair.
