India’s K Srikanth and PV Sindhu were knocked out in the 2nd round of the Chinese Taipei Grand Prix Gold event at Taipei earlier today. Both the players lost in straight sets and were not good on the day. It was a disappointing day for the Indian shuttlers.
In the men’s section K Srikanth took on Maulana Mustafa of Indonesia. The first game proved to nail bitter as both of the shuttlers were neck to neck. At the interval Mustafa led 11-10. After the interval both of them took alternate points till 18-18, but Srikanth failed to take the chance as Mustafa took the first game 21-18. In the second game Srikanth began well taking a 4-1 lead but Mustafa came back into the game equaling at 4-4. Mustafa took the next out of 7 points to give a 10-5 lead. At the changeover it was 11-5 in favor of Mustafa. After the changeover Mustafa put the pressure on Srikanth and never allowed the Indian player to comeback in the game and won the second game 21-18.
In the women’s section PV Sindhu too lost in straight sets. She was taking on Tzu Ying Tai. In the first game both players played some excellent badminton and fought for each point. At the changeover Tzu Ying Tai led 11-10. After the changeover both were equal till 14-14 as Tai took 4 consecutive points in a row to make 18-14. Tai won the first set 21-15. In the second game Tai started on an aggressive note taking a 8-1 lead. At the changeover Tai led 11-4. Sindhu tried to comeback in the match but Tai won the second set 21-17.
Both Srikanth and PV Sindhu had won the first round matches on Wednesday.
