Manchester United are asked to increase their bid by Real Madrid if they want to sign unsettled striker Alvaro Morata, according to latest reports.
The 24-year old had a difficult season under Zidane as he played as an understudy to French striker Karim Benzema. He is willing to move away from Bernabeu this summer in search of more playing time.
According to COPE, the Spaniard’s agent Juanma Lopez met with Real Madrid’s hierarchy and have informed the interest from Manchester United to make a deal for his client to leave the Spanish club.
However, Los Blancos have rebuffed Manchester United’s opening bid of £52.4 million (€60m) as they are looking for a significant rise in their bid in order to secure the signing of Morata this summer.
The report suggests Real Madrid are looking far in excess of the €70m, which was believed to be their evaluation of Morata earlier. However, the club are now looking for a bid close to €90m that Juventus spent on Gonzalo Higuain to let him go.
Lopez, who was at Bernabeu to discuss about his other client, Diego Llorente has also spoke on the potential move of Morata. Real Madrid believe that Morata has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world in the coming years and Manchester United will need to increase their bid to stand a chance to land him this summer.
The Red Devils are in a tough position to sign a top class striker after releasing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was injured during the end of last season. They currently have only Marcus Rashford as their No.9 and Jose Mourinho cannot rely on a teenager to be an impact player in Champions League.
Manchester United originally believed that they could warp up a deal for Morata before the weekend, when he will wed his fiance Alice Campello. But Real Madrid’s tough stance meant the deal could be further delayed.
COPE also reported that Jose Mourinho has been speaking to Alvaro Morata ‘on an almost daily basis’ to convince him about a move to Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are determined to use the funds generated by selling Morata to buy French sensation Kylian Mbappe.
