It was earlier reported that Matt Hardy’s WWE contract will be up for grabs from March 1 onwards unless WWE would have added additional time for missing some months due to injuries. But that could have mostly applied to Jeff Hardy which indicates that Matt won’t be a part of the WWE. In addition, the former tag team champion has also spoken up on social media confirming that he is indeed leaving the WWE.

“This is what happened as of this current time, I have decided to let my contract with WWE expire,” Matt Hardy revealed. “I am going to become a free agent and that’s not saying I’m not ever going to return to WWE.”
As revealed earlier, money has never been an issue between WWE and Matt Hardy but creative freedom. The veteran superstar has wanted to experiment with different characters on TV which was right away denied by the WWE officials leading to his frustrations. Plus, multiple injuries have also played spoilsport to his success during this ongoing tenure.
Randy Orton RKOs Hall Of Famer Beth Phoenix On WWE Raw
WWE has used Matt Hardy in a short storyline with Randy Orton in the last couple of weeks to get him beat up in a bad way. This ensured that Hardy gets written off the TV in a proper way. The angle created a big impact which also pushed the Edge vs. Orton WrestleMania angle, forward.
Wrestling Inc.’s Raj Giri spoke with Ryback on his podcast, “Conversations with The Big Guy” talking about the WWE booking Matt Hardy on his way out of the company. Ryback has previously talked about Hardy’s WWE status before. This time around, the former Intercontinental Champion praised WWE’s move to use Hardy around Orton’s attack angle on Edge.
“It’s working. I really think it’s working, and Matt is a doing a phenomenal job with this. I love it because for me, it’s not just the senseless jobbing the guy out where there is no payoff. It is helping an angle go over on your way out. I’d rather see that than Matt Hardy being on TV with no entrance putting a guy over in two minutes who they’re not gonna do anything with. That means nothing. It is fueling an angle. I love it,” Ryback said.
