Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is keen to have Dilip Vengasarkar as a mentor after the disappointing show by the team in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Notable that Mumbai was knocked out from the group stage of the tournament as they could win just one out of 6 games and finished last in the 6-team group.

According to a report in Indian Express, MCA is also not happy with Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) – comprising former players Vinod Kambli, Jatin Paranjpe, and Nilesh Kulkarni. So this 3-member committee is likely to be sacked as the Apex Council wants to appoint a new CIC.

Coach Amol Mazumdar also asked for a psychologist to help the team

“All issues were discussed and MCA took feedback from coach Amol Muzumdar on Mumbai’s bad performance. The MCA felt it was the right time to dial Vengsarkar and seek his help. At the same time, MCA felt a few tough decisions need to be taken going ahead,” an MCA official said.

It’s learnt that the Apex Council also requested MCA president Vijay Patil to speak to Dilip Vengsarkar and convince the legendary cricketer to take the role of the mentor.

Dilip Vegsarakar represented India in 116 Tests and 129 ODIs. The legendary Mumbai player scored 6868 runs with an average of 42.13 including 17 hundreds. He is popularly known for his feat as the only visiting batsman to score 3 hundreds at Lord’s.

In his review report, coach Amol Mazumdar also demanded a psychologist to help the team and requested to arrange a few red-ball practice games before the all-important Ranji Trophy.

“The MCA will look into Muzumdar’s requests. Life can be tough while playing in a bubble. At the same time, the coach blamed players for lack of execution and there was hardly any preparation before the Vijay Hazare tournament,” an MCA official added.
