Virat Kohli confirmed that his decision to step down as India‘s T20I captain has been well received by BCCI. Notable that a few days ago BCCI president Sourav Ganguly made a statement that BCCI requested Virat Kohli to stay as T20I captain.
Kohli, who was replaced by Rohit Sharma as ODI captain, also hit back at reports about his availability in the ODI series, saying that he will be available for the ODI series starting on January 19.

“I told the BCCI before giving up the T20I captaincy. I told them my point of view. The BCCI received it very well. There was no offence. It was received well, saying it’s a progressive step.” said Virat Kohli
“I told them I would continue as ODI captain and Test captain. I told them at that point clear that if the office bearers or the selectors don’t want me to handle either of the responsibilities, I am fine with it. I said this clearly when I approached the BCCI to discuss my T20I captaincy,” he added further in the pre-departure press conference for South Africa tour.
“I personally requested Virat Kohli not to give up the T20I captaincy”- Sourav Ganguly
That’s a contradictory statement to what BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said a couple of days back. The former captain claimed that he made a personal request to Virat Kohli for reconsidering his decision to step down as T20I captain.
“I personally requested him (Kohli) not to give up the T20I captaincy. Obviously, he felt the workload. Which is fine, he has been a great cricketer, he has been very intense with his cricket. He has captained for a long period of time and these things happen. Because I have captained for a long period of time; therefore, I know. Also, they wanted only one white-ball captain. And that’s why this decision.” Ganguly said to News18.
