National-level Kabaddi player Rohit Chillar was arrested on Friday, a few days after his wife Lalita committed suicide. The player’s father also surrendered before the Police.
The 27-year-old wife of the Kabbadi player hanged herself in her home in Delhi where she lived alone and accused her husband and his family for taking the decision to commit suicide. She left a two-hour long audio message and a note which said: “I’m not strong enough to survive this, I have decided to quit.”
According to Delhi Police, Lalita, in her audio message said that she was tortured for dowry, taunted and beaten by her husband and his family. She also claimed that Rohit asked her to go away so that he can live happily.
Rohit and his family remained untraceable after the incident. Although untraceable, Rohit posted a video on Facebook two days after the incident in which he denied all the allegation. But now the Police has detained him and his family.
Dependra Pathak, Joint Commissioner of Police in Delhi, said that Rohit was detained by a team of Delhi Police in Mumbai at noon where he works in Navy. While his father, Vijay Singh surrendered around noon at the Nangloi police station in Delhi.
