Newcastle United Make £30 Million Offer Bruno Guimaraes But Lyons Waiting For Summer Offers

Premier League side Newcastle United have approached Olympique Lyonnais for midfielder Bruno Guimaraes with a £30 million bid. Lyons midfielder has attracted interest from other big clubs as well but Newcastle United are the first one to make an official bid. But French giants and the player himself are looking for a summer exit instead of a January move. Newcastle United are struggling in the relegation zone and looking to sign impactful players like Guimaraes to survive Premier League after securing Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier this month.
The 24-year-old holding midfielder arrived at Lyons two years ago from Brazilian side Athletico Paranaense for a transfer fee of £15 million. Guimaraes has been a regular starter since the last season with 56 Ligue 1 appearances so far. His fitness and work rate at the centre of midfield has caught the eye of many football clubs last summer but no official approach was made for the player.
Guimaraes has appeared in 20 out of 21 league matches this season and has assisted 3 goals so far. He has also assisted 2 goals in 5 Europa League fixtures to guide Lyons to the next round. Lyons are struggling in 11th position in the Ligue 1 table with just 31 points in 21 matches, 9 points behind 3rd placed Marseille. Manager Peter Bosz will try to stall on any offer for their key midfielder as they can not afford to lose Guimaraes without any replacement first.
Newcastle United Offer Four Times His Current Salary To Guimaraes:
According to a report from The Mirror, Newcastle United have submitted a £30 million offer to Lyons for Bruno Guimaraes, but havent’s received any reply from the club. Lyons are open to listening to offers for the Brazilian international but not this month as they are unable to find his replacement before the transfer window gets closed in the next 5 days.
Arsenal representatives also approached the player in the first week of this month and Guimaraes expressed his desire to play in the Premier League in the future but also pointed out that he wants to stay at Lyons and win a trophy first.
“Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer. My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho (Lyon’s sporting director), is to win a title with Lyon, My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.” – Bruno Guimaraes.
But Newcastle United are determined to sign Guimaraes at any cost and they have tabled a contract offer worth four times more than what he earns at Groupama Stadium. It will definitely tempt the player to complete his Premier League dream and with much better wages but the same report also suggests that the player will not be moving to any club this month.
