Thibaut Courtois, who joined Spanish football club Real Madrid in the summer transfer window has not received a proper treatment from the Chelsea fans.
Courtois is utterly sad and thoroughly disappointed and feels the Chelsea fans don’t know the truth.
The Golden Glove winner of the 2018 World Cup in Russia is in a complicated situation at the moment. Out of the four matches, Madrid played so far, Courtois managed to play only one.
Madrid are finding it difficult to choose as both Keylor Navas and Courtois are in top form at the moment.
Meanwhile, after the match against Scotland on Friday, Courtois revealed he is sad to get the treatment he’s getting from the Chelsea fans.
“It makes me feel sad. Obviously, they don’t know all the truth; I think in March the decision was already made and I thought the club would accept it. Then because the transfer was close, I didn’t show up [to training] because I thought it was better not to disturb the squad. I didn’t want it to be toxic. It’s a pity because I love Chelsea. I loved playing there,” he asserted.
The goal-keeper was also heavily criticised after he made a statement last week saying “the level of training is higher here than Chelsea’s.” However, he insists the report was not to offend anyone.
“I never meant that. I just said that maybe in training it goes a little bit faster. But that’s also the quality of Real Madrid, that’s not saying Chelsea doesn’t have quality. I always give back a happy feeling to Chelsea. I had a chance to go back to Spain to be closer to my kids, and that was important to me,” he added.
Despite being hated, Thibaut Courtois wishes all the best to Chelsea fans in particular.
“I know a lot of Chelsea fans will understand my decision and I wish them the best. I am happy they have won the first four games, and I hope they go on and win the league,” he concluded.
After the international break, Real Madrid Club will play against Athletic Club on 16th September.
