Pakistan Test Opener Abid Ali Undergoes Angioplasty 1

Pakistan Test Opener Abid Ali has undergone an angioplasty after he was rushed to the hospital when he complaint about chest pain during a first-class match. In a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (Pakistan’s domestic first-class competition), he was playing for Central Punjab against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

After several tests, cardiac surgeons diagnosed that Abid Ali was suffering from ‘acute coronary syndrome’ which basically means blockage of blood flow in the heart.

“He has undergone angioplasty and a stent has been inserted in one vein and he will undergo another small procedure before he is discharged from hospital,” a PCB source said.

The opener was batting on 61 for Central Punjab when the incident happened. The team manager immediately rushed him to the hospital after the batter complained of chest pain and uneasiness in his shoulder on Tuesday.

In a message to his fans from the hospital, Abid Ali said that he was doing okay and asked his fans to wish for his speedy recovery.

Abid Ali has been a regular member of the Pakistan test team. So far he represented them in 16 Tests and 6 ODIs. He holds one unique distinction of scoring hundreds on his Test debut as well as ODI debut. In his 16-Test career, he already scored 1180 runs with 4 hundreds.

He also completed his 9000 first-class runs during this match against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
