Pepe, after completing his stint at Real Madrid, has left the Spanish giants after being an integral part of the team for the past decade.
An Unfortunate End
The 34-year old had started his career at Santiago Bernabeu after moving to the Spanish capital from FC Porto in a €30 million deal. He had since then been a key player for the club has won three Champions League titles, three La Liga titles among the many he had won in Real Madrid jersey.
However, despite his highlights, the end looks so dim in the recent weeks as the defender felt he was insulted. Pepe was looking to sign a two-year deal with the club, but Real Madrid were only willing to offer him a one-year deal with an option to extend another year.
The Portuguese defender was injury ridden last season and that did not help his cause to convince the club over a new contract. Pepe has also fallen out with manager Zinedine Zidane as well as club hierarchy and it made the situation more gloomy.
The club was accused by fans of not keeping hold of him as he became a seasoned campaigner for the twelve time European Champions. He had managed a mere 18 appearances for the club across all competitions during the 2016-17 season.
New Challenge Lies Ahead
The Portuguese defender now looks ahead for a new challenge in his career after proving his worth at a big club like Real Madrid. He was linked with a move to Chinese Super League back in January as he was eligible to sign pre-contract with any club.
However, no Chinese offer came his way and the season ended with a lot of speculations over his future in the recent weeks. French giants Paris Saint-Germain are looking keen to sign on a free deal and are ready to offer him a one-year deal with an option to extend for another year.
But the deal is yet to be struck and Turkish club Besiktas are the latest to join the race to sign him. Pepe is still one of the finest centre-backs in the world and could still be a class act for the new club he joins.
