According to multiple reports, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have a startling eight-man target list ready and plans to make significant changes to their squad in the summer as a result of being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League. The Les Parisiens took on Bayern Munich in an effort to advance to the quarterfinals in the Round of 16 of the continental tournament. However, things did not go as planned for them after they lost 3-0 on aggregate resulting in an elimination from the competition.
Moreover, this was PSG’s second consecutive ousting from the round of 16 stage, after they were knocked out by eventual champions Real Madrid at the same stage last season. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is upset that PSG failed to go past the Round of 16 in the Champions League for the fifth time in seven seasons. The Qatari executive is losing patience with football advisor Luis Campos and manager Christophe Galtier.
PSG want as many as 8 players in the summer to rebuild the squad
With his future bleak at Parc des Princes, Campos appears to have made the decision to start a squad revamp at the end of the season in an effort to find solutions to the Parisians’ problems. Latest reports have revealed an astounding list of eight players PSG may sign in the summer. Long-term target Milan Skriniar is anticipated to join the French giants on a free transfer from Inter Milan. Galtier’s side heavily pushed for a move in the winter market for the 28-year-old, but had to settle for a pre-contract for the defender to join in the summer.
L’Equipe (via Foot Mercato) reports that they are searching for another centre-back, with Pau Torres of Villarreal being mentioned as a possible candidate. Coming to the midfield, heavy recruitments are expected there. PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare has become a target for PSG ahead of the summer. But, given that he recently extended his contract with the Dutch team until 2027, he might end up being an impractical option.
Kouadio Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach is thought to be Sangare’s alternative for PSG. In any case, Les Parisiens have their sights set on improving their midfield alternatives this summer. However, to make room for new midfielders, bids will be entertained for Carlos Soler, Georginio Wijnaldum, Leandro Parades, Julian Draxler and Juan Bernat.
The Parc des Princes outfit has also included wantaway Manchester City star Bernardo Silva as one of its primary targets to bolster the attack. Silva is expected to leave Pep Guardiola’s team this summer, after a move to Barcelona last summer couldn’t materialise. The Portuguese attacker wants a new challenge, and is already believed to be interested in returning to France, where he had spent significant time with PSG’s rivals AS Monaco before moving to England.
PSG might also reignite their interest in Ryan Cherki of Olympique Lyonnais, whom they attempted to recruit in January. A striker is wanted by the Parisians, however on the demand of Kylian Mbappe. One of the promises made to the Frenchman for him to sign the contract extension back in May last year was that a new striker will be recruited to help him play from the left. Loan signing Hugo Ekitike has evidently been a flop, and is expected to be sent back to Monaco in the summer.
As a result, Napoli’s in-demand striker Victor Osimhen is wanted by PSG, but the problem remains that he apparently wants to play in the Premier League. According to reports, Campos recently met with the Nigerian’s agent in an effort to persuade him to reconsider his decision. If all a move does not go through for Osimhen, Portugal’s World Cup sensation Goncalo Ramos, who plies his trade for Benfica is thought of as an alternative.
