Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos has given a strong reply to Gerard Pique over his criticism of the Los Blancos, claiming that the Catalan giants are not so innocent in comparison.
The Barcelona defender had hit out at his club’s rivals, revealing that he would never work for them and he does not trust the values of the bosses in charge of the club, even going on to allege that the legal troubles against Lionel Messi and Neymar were brought upon by forces close to the Los Blancos.
Ramos, however, has refuted such suggestions claiming that he is saying such things only to sell newspapers.
“What Pique says won’t change the values, our badge, our history or our titles. What he says will provoke headlines and sell newspapers but we live off of that. In every box seat strings are pulled, but if anything, [Barcelona] should, in general, have more to be quiet about then we do”, Ramos said, as quoted by ESPN.
The 30-year-old believes that Pique has a reputation for making such statements and that he would be annoyed if such comments came from someone with the character of Andres Iniesta.
“The statements, if they came from [Andres] Iniesta, would annoy [Madrid]. From Pique? No. That’s part of Pique’s character. We’re not going to change him a the age of 30. We have to enjoy him as a great footballer.”
Pique and Ramos were involved with their national team Spain who beat France 2-0 in an international friendly on Tuesday night.
