A week ago, nobody knew about Marcos Rashford, and in the span of just five days, the Manchester United youngster has been the centre of attention, thanks to the brace against FC Midtyjlland and Arsenal in Europa League and Premier League respectively. Suddenly, the demoralised fans who demanded the effervescence and cutting edge in the team’s performances have found the much-needed spirit with the debut of the 18-year-old.
But things are going hit a hump as it is reported by Mirror UK that the player is delaying to sign a new contract with the club. He currently earns 1500 pounds in a week, and Manchester United are desperate to tie the much celebrated youngster with them, and are willing to pay even up to 10,000 pounds-per-week, that is more than six times what the player is earning now.
But the English player has decided to put hold to the contracts talks until the end of the season, so that he can prove his worth. Club officials believe that this delay has nothing to do with a move away from Old Trafford.
He started the Premier League game against Arsenal last Sunday, and helped his team outrun their arch-rivals with two goals and an assist. He became the third youngest player for Manchester United to score in a Premier League match, after Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck.
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal was so taken by the performance of the debutant, and took time to compare his debut performance with that of Xavi, Thomas Muller and Patrick Kluivert.
“I can remember a lot of them. Patrick Kluivert scored the winning goal for Ajax in the Super Cup in the Netherlands.” Manchester United boss said. “Xavi was fantastic for Barcelona against I think Valladolid, and also Thomas Muller a fantastic debut.”
