India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has joined an elite list of players on the third day of the first test match in Mohali as he became the 6th player to score a 150+ score and a fifer in the same test match.
On Sunday, Jadeja claimed his 10th fifer in Test cricket as he finished with figures of 5/41 in the first innings as the visitors bowled out for 174 and India enforced the follow-on after taking the lead of 400.
Ravindra Jadeja picked his 10th fifer in Tests
Yesterday Ravindra Jadeja scored his career-best of 175 which took India to a total of 574/8 in the first innings. He is the sixth player to achieve this double. Denis Atkinson, Mushtaq Mohammad, Vinoo Mankad, Polly Umrigar, and Garry Sobers are others in this exclusive club.
It was Jadeja’s second hundred in his Test career. In his 58 Test career, he scored 2370 runs with an average of 36.46 which included two hundreds and 17 fifties. His score of 175 was the highest by any Indian player batting at no.7 or lower. Previously this record was held by Kapil Dev (163) which he achieved against Sri Lanka at Kanpur in 1986.
Resuming the third day’s play, Sri Lanka started the day with a score of 108/4. Bumrah provided them with the first breakthrough when India reviewed an LBW call successfully against Asalanka. Then Jadeja took over as most of the lower-order batsmen looked in hurry. First Dickwella top-edged an attempted sweep which was caught by a deep square leg.
Then Lakmal was the next one to go when he miscued a big heave and Ashwin caught it comfortably at mid-off. After that Embuldeniya was bounced out by Shami as he was caught at short leg by Mayank Agarwal.
Then Jadeja wrapped up the things quickly as he picked Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Kumara on consecutive deliveries. Sri Lanka’s batsman Pathum Nissanka was left stranded at the score of 61.
Other than Jadeja’s fifer, Shami and Ashwin also picked two wickets each while Bumrah got one.
