Manchester United hopes of landing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata were dealt a massive blow after Florentino Perez’s comments on Monday night.
The European champions are keen to keep hold off their star players despite increasing speculations over the future of Alvaro Morata, James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo in the recent weeks.
Real Madrid won back to back Champions League trophies and are not ready to let their star players leave to other clubs this summer. Perez told radio station Onda Cera that Ronaldo had not expressed any unhappiness over the club with him.
He also reiterated that the club are determined to have both Morata and James Rodriguez for next season.
‘I have not talked to [PSG chairman] Nasser [Al-Khelaifi] or anyone else, nor have we received offers for [Ronaldo], Morata or James,’ he explained on Monday night.
‘And neither have we made any offers for anyone. There are no figures. The only possibility is to continue with the players we have. And if we do something, it will be punctual.’
He later expanded on that, continuing: ‘In principle, we do not want anyone to go, just as Zizou [Zinedine Zidane] said. Nobody has offered us anything. Not for James or anyone.
‘Let’s not get obsessed. We have a great team and what we do will be to improve it.’
The latest comments made by Perez reveal that the deal for either Ronaldo or Morata is not even close despite reports in recent days suggesting that Manchester United are firm favourites.
Speaking about Morata specifically, Perez said: ‘He’s just got married. Let him enjoy the honeymoon!’
The 24-year old, Morata, had a difficult season under Zidane as he played as an understudy to French striker Karim Benzema. He is speculated to move away from Bernabeu this summer in search of more playing time and Manchester United are considered favourites to land him.
Earlier reports suggested that United are very close to signing him as the Red Devils got a massive €75 million (£65.6m) bid rejected and Real Madrid are expected a bid around €90m (£78.8m).
Meanwhile, Morata got married last weekend and even if the Spaniard decides to move away from Bernabeu it would take a certain time to keep the deal in place.
