WWE United States Championship changed hands on the December 26th edition of a live event that took place at Madison Square Garden. Andrade defeated Rey Mysterio for the title who was in a battered state after the beatdown received on Raw at the hands of Seth Rollins and AOP.
Many thought it was a quick move by the creative team to crown a new champion and make the MSG show a bigger success. But that may not be the case.
Mask Vs. Hair WWE Gimmick Match Not Happening For Rey Mysterio
That has been the reported plan, all along which was not a last-minute decision, according to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer. As carried in a report by wrestlingINC.com, it was to insert the Master of 619 into the top program on WWE Raw,
“The idea behind Rey’s title loss to Andrade at the December 26 MSG live event was to have Rey move into the top feud on the RAW brand, which is Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe battling Seth Rollins and The Authors of Pain.”
However, the feud may not last long as we approach the Royal Rumble PPV. The program should continue for some weeks as hinted on the past week’s Raw where Andrade stole Mysterio’s mask. But it should not be dragged along considering these two have already been involved in several matches in the past.
Does Andrade Want To Get Paired Opposite Charlotte Flair In WWE?
Earlier, Andrade was originally slated to feud with Humberto Carrillo, which is why the latter name defeated Andrade twice back in December. But moving forward, the WWE NXT invasion angle forced some creative changes onboard resulting in AJ Styles and The OC getting multiple wins in a row over Carrillo. With Carrillo losing some steam, it’s unknown who Andrade will move into a feud with, next.
This past edition of RAW saw WWE veteran Big Show returning on TV for his first match in more than a year. He helped Joe and Owens to battle against Rollins, Akam, and Rezar.
This will now produce a “Fist Fight” six-man tag team match on next week’s RAW which will also see the continuation of Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade feud. There’s no confirmation available on how long Big Show is in this main event storyline. But the expectation is that Rey will move into his spot with Joe and Owens when Show leaves the slot.
