In an unfortunate set of events, the US title reign of Rey Mysterio was cut short on December 26th. It was at WWE Live Event in the world’s most famous Madison Square Garden Arena where Andrade defeated him for the mid-card title.
As per the storyline, it happened since Rey was not fully physically well after suffering a beatdown at the hands of Seth Rollins and AOP.
The rematch for the United States title took place on this past edition of WWE Raw where Andrade successfully retained against Rey Mysterio. Zelina Vega was accidentally knocked out by Rey that allowed the champion to send the challenger to the ring post and hit the Hammerlock DDT to get the win and retain his title.

The storyline has not ended between the two as Andrade ripped off the sacred mask of Rey Mysterio showing utter disrespect. Later, Rey took it back from the US Champion by attacking him backstage. This segment hinted WWE might be planning a gimmick match around the Master of 619 who is famous for his masks.
There were murmurings whether Rey Mysterio would put his mask on the line in order to get back the United States title against Andrade. Despite the setup and perhaps some initial planning, the match is not supposed to be the card for any of the upcoming events. Here’s more from a carried report from wwfoldschool.com,
“This began speculation that WWE could be doing a “Mask vs. Title” match between Mysterio & Andrade (a “Mask vs. Hair” match was originally planned for them at WrestleMania 35), but that’s not the case.
According to the Wrestling Observer, despite all signs pointing towards this gimmick match involving Mysterio’s mask happening, there are no plans as of now to do it.”

However, the feud will continue on WWE Raw that should produce a matchup in due course. The speculation was that Rey Mysterio vs. Andrade would be added to the Royal Rumble card.
But for now, WWE has added the former US title-holder into the title match, itself. Hence, the next set of magical performances between these two stars should occur in a weekly edition.
