India‘s emerging speedster Avesh Khan hailed Rishabh Pant as a brilliant captain as he stated that the wicketkeeper always guides him to make some tactical changes during the game.

Last year Rishabh Pant was given the responsibility of captaining the Delhi Capitals side as regular captain Shreyas Iyer missed the India leg of IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury.

However impact of Pant’s captaincy was as such that even when Iyer came back in the UAE leg of IPL 2021, he continued to captain the side. Delhi Capitals finished the league stage as the table-toppers however they lost both their playoff games which ended their campaign.

Rishabh Pant captained Delhi Capitals in IPL 2021

Avesh Khan, who finished as the 2nd leading wicket-taker in the IPL 2021, shared his experience to play under Rishabh Pant as he said that they share a good friendship which helps them to execute the plans on the field.

“Rishabh Pant is quite an intelligent captain. He is a wicketkeeper, so he can see very well what the batter is going to do. I have always had good communication with him, because he is a good friend too from the Under-19 days, when we played together,” Avesh Khan spoke to Boria Majumdar on a show ‘Backstage with Boria’.

Even when we’d be in the room together, I’d tell him that whatever you feel is right, whatever field you want to set or whatever delivery you want me to bowl, you tell me and I’ll do that. So the captain always trusted me that ‘he will do what I say’. I would also practice accordingly” he added.

Avesh Khan formed a terrific pace trio along with the South African pace duo-Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. Avesh insisted that Pant always guides him to execute a particular plan.

“He’s also guided me from behind the stumps many times as to whether to bowl away from the batter or to bowl a bouncer or a wide yorker. It feels good having that kind of communication, and when I executed those plans even he felt good as a captain that I was following what he had to say,” he further added.

Avesh Khan picked 24 wickets in 16 games in IPL 2021 with an economy of 7.37. Now he has been selected for both T20I and ODI series against West Indies.
