Sachin Tendulkar Reveals His Conversation With Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson was the man of the tournament in ICC World Cup 2019 but was gutted to be on the wrong side of things in the final of the tournament. The team did exceptionally well to seal the cup but the ICC rule of boundaries count saw the hosts winning the game. Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar revealed his words to Kane Williamson, which were said while handing the trophy.
New Zealand scored 241/8 after winning the toss and opting to bat at the Lord’s. England’s run chase ended at 241, all out off the last ball of the match. The game went into the super over where both the teams scored 15 and tie stood as it is at the end of 12 balls.
ICC’s rule says that in case super over too fails to break the tie then the team that hit more boundaries (fours and sixes combined) will win the game. The hosts won the World Cup as they hit 26 boundaries as compared to 17 by the Kiwi batsmen.
Your game was appreciated by all – Sachin Tendulkar
During the post-match presentation, Sachin Tendulkar did not mention anything about the misfortune, the Super Over or the boundary count rule which turned down Williamson the chance to have his hands on the coveted trophy.
“Your game was appreciated by all and you had a great World Cup,” said Sachin Tendulkar to Kane Williamson while presenting him the Player of the Tournament trophy after New Zealand succumbed to a thrilling defeat in the World Cup 2019 final.
It was unfortunate for Kane Williamson –
Williamson, for his part, scored 578 runs in the tournament – the most by a captain in a World Cup and Tendulkar credited his calm demeanour for the same.
“The best thing about Williamson is ability to stay calm. He doesn’t lose his composure in any circumstances. It was unfortunate that he could not win the World Cup but it did not reflect on his face,” Tendulkar told 100Mb.
However, it was a heartbreak for Kane Williamson, who almost became the first captain in the history for New Zealand to lift a world cup trophy. However, the rules of super-over saw him staying away from lifting the trophy.
