Bollywood megastar Saman Khan’s name is announced as the goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent for the 2016 Rio Olympics. This is the first time that a Bollywood actor named as a goodwill ambassador for the national squad for as big an event as the Summer Olympics.

The announcement was made in Delhi in front of sporting stars like MC Mary Kom, Sardar Singh, Ritu Rani, Deepika Kumari, Archery, Apurvi Chandela, Manika Batra. The Games start on August 5 and end on August 21.

Salman, in Bollywood movies, is showed as an icon of strength and power has been seen at Pro-Kabaddi league matches. In July last year, Salman was seen at the match between U Mumba and Puneri Paltan.

The Olympic torch has been lit in southern Greece, kicking off the countdown to Rio 2016 on April 21.

In a solemn and elaborate ceremony, women in ancient-Greek-style dresses and men in tunics performed symbolic rituals at the site of Ancient Olympia.

After its sprint through Greece, the torch will travel to Brazil on April 27 to begin a 95-day tour visiting 83 cities, 26 state capitals and 500 towns, reaching an estimated 90% of the population.
