Ace Indian tennis star Sania Mirza continued her juggernaut with partner Martina Hingis as the Indo-Swiss pair entered the semifinals by winning two matches in one day of the Wuhan Open WTA tournament in Wuhan, China on Thursday 1 October 2015. They now meet in the semifinals a pair of sisters and familiar foes in Chan Yung-Jan and Chan Hao-Ching.

The top-seeded duo beat the fifth-seeded US combine of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears in straight sets of 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinal battle. The successful pair has been on a high after winning the Wimbledon doubles crown and then the U.S. Open trophy this year to add to their cabinet. Sania and Hingis were just three games into their second round encounter with Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Anastasia Rodionova before rain forced them off the court but finally had it relatively easy in the second round against (6-3, 6-2) after getting a first round bye in the tournament.

Their next opponents, No.4 seeds and sisters Chan Yung-Jan and Chan Hao-Ching were in the same situation and displayed similar resolve on Thursday, first defeating another pair of sisters in Nadia and Lyudmyla Kichenok, 6-4, 6-2, and then taking out Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. The Chans have played Hingis and Mirza three times this summer, losing their first encounter with the top-seeded team at the Rogers Cup before earning their revenge at the Western & Southern Open. Hingis and Mirza trailed the sisters 0-5 in the quarterfinals of the US Open but dropped just two more games en route to a 7-6(5), 6-1 victory.

On the bottom half of the draw, Romanians Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu benefitted from a walkover given by Garbiñe Muguruza and Carla Suárez Navarro, and will next face No.6 seeds and 2013 US Open champions Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the other semifinals.
