WWE has announced that the next edition of Monday Night RAW will feature a retirement ceremony for Rey Mysterio. The veteran wrestler has been involved in a major feud with Seth Rollins who suffered a storyline eye injury at the hands of Rollins, two weeks ago. Rey Mysterio was forced to leave the show with eyes covered with blood. Since then, we haven’t seen him on TV.

It started rumors on the WWE contract status of Rey Mysterio. However, it was reported that he is not expected to leave the company, anytime soon.
Hence, the retirement proceeded would only be a kayfabe angle to extend the ongoing storyline with Seth Rollins so that they could compete in a singles bout at WWE Backlash. Rollins was seen carrying around Rey’s mask on this week’s RAW, hinting that the feud will definitely continue.
In an update to the Rey Mysterio retirement ceremony announcement, WWE twitter account also confirmed that Seth Rollins will be the host of the segment. It was also reported that the Monday Night Messiah will also be in action against Aleister Black on next Monday’s RAW.
The Black vs. Rollins feud is an extension of the Rollins vs. Mysterio feud, in which Humberto Carrillo is also involved with. Rey Mysterio has these two in his side whereas Rollins has Murphy and Austin Theory on his side.

Previously, Jim Ross stated on a recent podcast that he believes Rey Mysterio recently signed a new WWE deal. Dave Meltzer also added on Twitter, that Rey Mysterio “isn’t going anywhere” for the time being in response to rumors on him leaving WWE.
Later in an update, the Observer has reported that Rey’s contract is coming to an end but as of one week ago he had not inked a new contract. However, the Master of 619 is not expected to leave WWE, but it’s not a lock.

There is the idea to not do anything to upset WWE officials because it could negatively impact Dominick’s career.
